Riverside County is lowering the assessed value on several thousand properties. If you do not receive a card with your new value or you do not agree with the value, you can file a one page form at the courthouse or on line with a list of the comparable sales in your neighborhood. The county will re-evaluate your home for a realistic value. This is a good way to save some money - maybe several thousand dollars. This is making a positive out of the negative of lowered property values.
I am concerned what these lowered values for the second year in a row will do the the county budget and financial condition. I am glad that many of us can pay less, but as we know the bills for the county continue to increase, not lessen. How much longer can we let roads, parks, lighting, and law enforcement try to function with less money each year. We will see how this all works out.
