La Quinta California Real Estate: The Key To success is simple, Realtors need to answer the phone.

The Key To success is simple, Realtors need to answer the phone.

This is still the key to success is real estate. I have a team of 15 agents and we all answer the phone 7 days a week at least 12 hours a day. Guess what- we are all top producers! Just today I picked up 2 more clients from agents who once again did not answer the phone. We all know people will wait for a doctor or lawyer. They wil not wait for a realtor- even their longtime realtor. They want realtors to be available 24-7. I actually put off being a realtor for about 20 years after I saw my realtor walk out of her party at her house with over 100 people there to go write an offer after she had answered the phone during the party. Now that is my life too. I love being a realtor. I am embarrassed and frustrated by realtors who do not answer the phone. If you are a realtor, please ANSWER THE PHONE.............

I am always amazed by how many "professionals" act unprofessional by not answering their phones or returning calls.

PEOPLE AREN"T GOING TO BEG YOU TO TAKE THEIR BUSINESS!!!

In fact, people will just take their business elsewhere.

ANSWER YOUR PHONE!!!!

Is your attorney unprofessional because he doesn't answer calls on Sundays? What about your CPA? How about your financial planner? See, here's part of the problem. Realtors who choose to work 7 days a week think all agents should work 7 days a week.

And please don't be embarrassed for those of us who choose to have a life outside of real estate.  I don't answer the phone on Sundays and seldom on Saturdays, and in the last 11 years it hasn't affected my business one bit. But it has continued to strengthen the cohesiveness of my family. They recognize they are more important to me than someone else's family who likely has unrealistic expectations. I let my clients know up front that I work like a true professional...I take time off for my family and my faith. I don't fault anyone who wants to work 24/7, but they also should understand that their business practices are not necessary the right practices for all agents/brokers.

No offense, but some of us understand that being a professional has nothing to do with being a 24/7 servant.

Thanks for your comments. Very interesting to hear another perspective. How about having someone else answer your phone on Sundays? I also think Texas is different than California on the blue laws for Sundays. Weekends are our busiest times. Our agents usually take off during the week instead of the weekends. I felt very lucky when I moved from the Bay Area to Palm Springs area and was able to not work at night anymore. Good for you to take off the weekends! Family is very important and we all have different goals and dreams.

I agree that you need to let your clients know what your boundaries are--- and find out what their expectations and means of communication are up front.  By establishing the 'ground rules' early on, you can both be happy and meet expectations.

It takes both parties to be available at precisely the same time to connect by phone.  Email is far more efficient and provides a "paper trail" of communication.

Thanks for the comments. I like email and text but sometimes a phone works the best.
