What it takes to be happy

Her eis my take on what it takes to be happy. I have had a long and good life with several challenges along the way. After many years of trying to figure it out, I found it all pretty simple.

You can pretty much  be as happy as you make up your mind to be.

The keys for a good day every day -

1. Be grateful

2. Have a sense of humor

I also try to do something nice for someone everyday.

Give, receive, and exude love

Most of the challenges we face are transient. We don't want to lose one minute of each day as life does pass quickly.

Talk less,say more

As realtors, we all talk alot. I feel one of the keys to success is to say as little as possible. This will save alot of time and also will protect you legally.

Being clear and concise really makes for a better and more professional life. Also, it is important to not say anymore than we have to in any situation.

As realtors, we can see our success skyrocket if we listen more than talk. Talk less, say more.

What damages a client relationship?

A bad experience or broken promise can damage a relationship. If you don't show up on time or fail to sell ahouse in the time frame you described, that can end the trust. Most people want to give us the benfit of the doubt, but usually alot of good experiences have to happen before the bad ones disappear. A good way to keep clients happy, is to stay in communication. Let them know what is going on at least 1 or 2 a week by email and calling. Let them know what you are doing to market their home. Use a multi-faceted marketing approach. Always remember to be cheerful and helpful. If the customer is not right, let them be wrong with dignity. Get to the core of the problem which helps restore confidence. Try to disarm disgruntled clients by reminding them they hired you for your expertise and that you are doing all you can to sell their home. It is still a tough economy and market. In the worst cases, you may have to let the client go ( fire them). It is not personal. We cannot please everyone all the time no matter how good we are.

Have you had any distractions to your business lately?

Have you had any distractions to your business lately? I have realized how much time and energy is taken each day by distractions coming my way. I feel just the awareness will help me divert or avoid some of  the distractions. Do you relate to any of these? Any others that you have had recently?

1. Meetings

2. People stopping by the office

3. Catching up daily with people in the office

4.  Reading the mail

5. Planning dinner, stopping at the store

6. Reading emails

7. Getting with vendors on incorrect billings

8. Computer slow or down - run virus scan

9. Making coffee

10. Taking and making personal calls

11. Directing servicers - gardener, house cleaner, etc.

12. Paying bills

13. Making appts. for dr., dentist, dinner

14. Getting gas in car and car wash

15. Emptying trash at office

16. Adding new printer cartridge to computer

17. Checking and answering voice mail

18. Feeding pets

19. Downloading photos

20. Reading blogs

These are a few that take me alot of time that I could be using to prospect clients and build my business or just relaxing by the pool. I realize many of these have to be done, but when to do them and the length of time involved can reallly make a difference in the time each day for business and pleasure too.
