I have lived in La Quinta, California and worked as a broker for The Lori Bowers Group Paradise Properties. Earlier in my life I suffered severe heat stroke and melanoma. I am still very sensitive to sun and heat. I have developed a way of life to live in La Quinta, California, with extreme heat and enjoy it without health issues regarding the climate.
1. I stay out of the sun unless necessary. Even with trying to stay out of the sun, I get plenty. We have sunshine 360 days a year or more. Even going in and out of homes, I get alot of very strong sun. There are not vitamin D issues here.
2. Drink pleanty of water. Soda and coffee do not count. I am not a drinker, but have learned not drink alcohol during the hot months or in the heat.Even on drink has extra potency and can lead to dehydration and heat exhaustion.
3. Eat alot of protein. This is like winter in many areas. Alittle extra fuel in the body does help.
4. Stay in cool places, but run the air conditions no more than 20 degrees under the outside temperature. That way when you go outside you will not feel so hot. When I moved to La Quinta 10 years ago, my perfect temperature was 80 degrees. Now my perfect temperature in 95 degrees.
5. Wear cool clothes and cool colors. Save black for evenings. White, tan, and other light colors do feel alot cooler.
6. Visors help alot- especially to reduce glare and lessen headaches. Be sure the visor is light weight and comfortable.
We love living and working in La Quinta, California. The sun and heat energize us.
