Having reliable people on your team makes the difference!

I was sitting here this morning thinking about how fortunate I am that I have a reliable team of people around me.  From the agents on my team all helping each other to our escrow officer working to get a deal closed, all are so important to our company and its high success rate. We have a handyman named Mr Happy who we can call whenever something needs repaired, a title rep who is always available to answer questions, a lender who keeps us up to date and a Home Warranty Rep who is around as well.  It makes like so much easier, our clients feel more secure in their transactions and as a whole the team more united in helping others.

So besides my office assistant, transaction manager, marketing manager we have so many more people who add to our rate of success.  Who do you have in your office that you could not live without?

3900 MARBLES or How Many Saturdays Do you Have Left??

Via Kathy Schowe (The Lori Bowers Group):

I read a story today about an older man who was trying to relate the importance of savoring each and every moment of your life.

He said he had a theory to help him prioritize-- And that's when he began to explain his theory of a 'thousand marbles.'

'You see, I sat down one day and did a little arithmetic.  The average person lives about   seventy-five years. I know, some live more and some live less, but on average, folks live about seventy-five years.

'Now then,  I multiplied 75 times 52 and I came up with 3900, which is the number of Saturdays that the  average person has in their entire lifetime.

It took me until I was fifty-five years old to think about all this in any detail', he went on, 'and by that time I had lived through over twenty-eight hundred Saturdays.' 'I got to thinking that if I lived to be seventy-five, I only had about a thousand of them left to enjoy.  So I went to a toy store and bought every single marble they had.  I ended up having to visit three toy stores to round up 1000 marbles I took them home and put them inside a large, clear plastic container right here in the shack next to my gear.'

'Every Saturday since then, I have taken one marble out and thrown it away. I found that by watching the marbles diminish, I focused more on the really important things in life.

This morning, I took the very last marble out of the container. I figure that if I make it until next Saturday then I have been given a little extra time. And the one thing we can all use is a little more time.'  I hope you use your marbles, before you lose your marbles!

He Made $1Million Last Year and He Wants to Short Sale

Via Kathy Schowe (The Lori Bowers Group):

There must be alot of misinformation floating around about what happens in a Short Sale.  The general public has heard of them-- and like the perfect golf swing, they think they know a little bit about them.  For the most part, I have found that a large percentage of people...accountants, lawyers, bankers, Realtors, included... have many different ideas about what happens in a short sale and when it is a viable option.  Most people don't know how to grip the club. Much less, hit the ball.

I have a client who came to me and said he needed to short sale his home.  I asked for the pertinent information to send to the bank... and he said "HARDSHIP ??  What's that??  My income was over a $1Million dollars in the last  3 years, and I'm getting divorced, and my house is'nt worth what I have in it.  Help me.  Oh, and I can't give you a financial statement."

What we have here, is a failure to understand who Short Sales were created for.  People who have lost jobs, spouses... people who are so far behind, that there is no other option.  The public needs to be educated about Short Sales and given factual information.  What do you do when you want to learn the swing.... you go to a pro.  When you have Real Estate questions-- don't rely on what your neighbor told you-- go to a pro!

The Circus is in Palm Desert, Circus Vargas

Americas Favorite Big top Circus is in Palm Desert.  Tonight is the opening night and it has been so much fun to see the kids standing around watching the big tent go up.  Circus Vargas will be in town through the  weekend at the West field Mall Parking Lot

The theater-style tent seats 1,500 people comfortably.. The tent consists of 90,000 square feet of fabric and is supported by 500 individually placed stakes and over four miles of rope and cable weighing over 17 tons. It is amazing even as an adult to see the big tent and work that goes into setting it up.

Just driving by this morning brought back memories of going to the circus as a child.  The clowns, the cotton candy and the people flying through the air.  Amazing how quickly the circus can bring you right back to the innocence of childhood.

Have you been to a circus lately?

California has 5th highest unemployment rate in the nation, what about our valley?

California's unemployment rate stayed at 12.4 percent and the nations rate was 10 percent.   Every city in the  Coachella Valley has been hit by unemployment and job loss.  Sams Club in La Quinta announced they are closing and therefor many people are going to be laid off. In Mecca, one in four people are without a job.

So what is they key to turning around our market?  We have to find ways to bring more jobs into our areas. We have to find ways to keep people employed.  Do we need to stop outsourcing our jobs to different countries in order to assure our survival?  Is it time to make changes here at home?

Do you have a hole in your pocket?

I was reading a little business fact in the paper and it really struck me!  It said that the average person spends about $21 a week without having any idea where it went.  That adds up to $1,092 a year that we lose somehow.....How many times do we think about the money we spend without realizing it.?  How many times could we have filled up our gas tanks or treated ourselves to a small vacation with the money we spend without thinking...

Do you ever stop and think about the amount of money we waste?  I know it really hit me to start paying attention to the little spending as it adds up.

A Few New Tax Reminders and Tips for 2009 Filings

* The first time home buyer's credit has been extended to April 30, 2010. Some current buyers may also qualify for a credit up to $6500 when purchasing as a primary residence.
* The standard business mileage is $.055 per mile.
* If you received Unemployment Compensation in 2009, you can exclude up to $2400 from your gross income.
* If you purchased a motor vehicle between February 16,2009 and December 31, 2009, you may qualify for an additional deduction. Please check with your accountant for details.
* Given the downturn in the economic environment during 2009, you may receive a Form 1099-A or 1099-C due to a foreclosure or cancellation of debt. The Internal Revenue Service can consider the amount on these forms to be part of your gross income. Check with your accountant to see how you may be able to exclude this taxable income under special IRS codes.
There are many other changes of 2009 which could benefit your specific tax situation. Please be sure to allow sufficient time for accurate preparation of your tax returns. Most accountants need to receive by at last March 20, 2010, to allow sufficient time for the accurate preparation of your tax returns.

Arnold Palmer's Talent Lives on in La Quinta!

Via Kathy Schowe (The Lori Bowers Group):

We saw Arnold Palmer here today at LaQuinta Country Club-- but he was'nt playing-- he was following his Grandson, Sam Saunders!  Sam is playing in the Bob Hope Classic this year and his proud Grandpa is behind the ropes watching! Here is a shot of him warming up!

We had a few sprinkles today, but it was still great fun to be out watching the pros and walking around this great course.  More Bob Hope Classic updates coming soon!
